A major annoyance with many websites is multimedia content such as music or videos that automatically play when the page loads. This is a major pet peeve of mine because I’m usually listening to music or video content in VLC on my third display.
Why on earth would I want a website to automatically play media content without my permission?
Answer: I don’t.
Follow these easy steps to disable autoplay for media in Firefox:
Type “about:config” into your address bar and hit enter.
Confirm any dialogs that pop up, if you haven’t already been to this “secret” page before.
Search for “autoplay” in the search bar at the top.
Double click “media.autoplay.enabled” and the value should turn to “False.”
Close the about:config tab and browse websites with one less annoyance.
Now you’ve taken total control of your browsing experience (almost) while also saving some data!
