Ripping or downloading videos from Instagram on your computer is fairly easy and can be…
YouTube has a way of irritating me with dumb features such as: autoplaying videos, irrelevant related videos, censorship, and forcing logins for sensitive videos. I refuse to use a YouTube account to watch videos and allow them to track my every move.
Occasionally, I come across videos that require users to log in just to watch the video! I hate this feature, but I can see why they would need it. Luckily, there is a way to get around this annoying feature (until they shut it down).
Bypass YouTube’s age restriction by modifying the URL structure:
Take a generic YouTube URL such as this:
(Pull-over thriller: Man shot at Pennsylvania police officers, badly injuring one).
You’ll notice that visiting that link will require you to sign in, which is entirely unacceptable. We simply need to modify the URL structure in order to watch it without signing in.
Replace “watch?v=” with “embed/” and keep the video ID string (O0oUSZP341g) as is.
The new URL should look something like this:
Now, watch peacefully without signing in to screwtube!
Bypass YouTube’s age restriction with a third party website: HookTube.com:
Take a generic YouTube URL and simply replace “you” with “hook” in the domain name. HookTube is a great website that utilizes YouTube’s API, but avoids all the bloat that comes with YouTube.
Bypass YouTube’s age restriction with another third party website: Invidio.us:
Take a generic YouTube URL and simply replace the domain name with “www.invidio.us” and leave the video ID in tact after the domain name. Invidio.us is a newer alternative to HookTube that doesn’t directly embed YouTube’s videos.
Who knows how long these websites will be alive until Google files a lawsuit, but I’ll keep using them until they are shut down.
